CANDLE CARE
What is the burn time on our candles?
With our signature 8 oz candles, the burn time is 75+ hours. Our 4 oz event tins get 20+ hours, and our 16 oz Wooden Wick candles get 75+ hours. Soy wax has memory. The very first burn of your candle is the most important. The first time you light your candle be sure to burn it long enough to allow the melted wax to reach the edge of the jar to prevent your candle from tunneling. With our 4 oz and 8 oz candles this takes about four hours. With our 16 oz Wooden Wick candles this takes about six hours.
Why do we focus on 100% ingredients for our candles?
Unlike many of our competitors, our number one goal when creating our candles has been to make them better and cleaner than every other candle out there. We know and understand how unhealthy it is to breathe in harsh chemicals that typical candles produce when using metal wicks, artificial fragrances and non-soy based waxes. So we created a candle company that only uses the best ingredients.
The soy wax used in our candles is derived from American grown soy beans. It's 100% vegan, clean burning, and environmentally friendly so you don't have to worry about any toxins getting into your space while burning them. We use natural cotton fiber braided wicks designed to bring the heat of the flame closer to the edge of the jars, making each candle last as long as possible. We also use 100% clean scents and essential oils to scent our candles.
Why do you have to trim your wick?
Honestly, you shouldn’t have to. It is recommend to keep wicks trimmed to approximately a 1/4 inch. Our wicks are self-trimming and should do just fine on their own. However, if you notice your wick is too long, trim that baby. A wick that is too long will burn hotter than what is necessary causing it to lose burn time.
Why do you have to let your candle burn for hours?
Soy wax has memory. The very first burn of your candle is the most important. The first time you light your candle be sure to burn it long enough to allow the melted wax to reach the edge of the jar to prevent your candle from tunneling. With our 4oz and 8.4oz candles this takes about four hours. With our 16oz wood wick candles this takes about six hours.
What are some candle safety tips?
Never leave a burning candle unattended. Please. Extinguish all candles when you leave a room or before going to sleep. Do not place a burning candle near pets, children, clothing, books or anything flammable. Place candles on a stable heat-resistant surface. Our custom wooden lids double as both a lid as well as a candle coaster (safe burning surface). Keep lit candles away from drafts, ceiling fans, and any air currents.
Our wicks have a safety feature that will force the candle to go out before the flame gets too close to the bottom of the jar, protecting the glass jar from overheating. This only happens at the very end of a candles life.
What do I do with my jar and lid after burning?
Whatever you do DON’T THROW THEM AWAY! All throughout the year glass jars are in season. Pickle jars, jam jars, mason jars, Natural Habitat jars…They are omnipresent, in abundance and infinitely useful. If you cannot think of a way to reuse your jars (cotton balls and q-tips look really cute in them) please contact us. We reuse both the jars and wooden lids. During Farmers Market season we accept jar + lid combination returns for a discount off of your next purchase as incentive.
