Our Story

Natural Habitat Candle Co. was started in 2019 in a tiny one bedroom apartment. After years of collecting half-burned candles due to experiencing headaches from the artificial fragrances used in them, we (Kenzie and Cory) set out to create a cleaner alternative that we could make and burn in our home headache and worry free.

“With a commitment to using only natural and sustainable materials, we started experimenting with ingredients such as clean scents, essential oils and soy wax to create candles that are not only safer and healthier to burn, but also smell amazing. Through tons of trial and error we were able to develop unique blends of scents that appeal to a wide range of customers. We applied to sell at some of our local Farmer’s Markets and once accepted, the rest is history.

As the demand for our natural candles grew, we turned our passion into a full-time business. We have built a loyal following of customers who appreciate the quality and integrity of our products as well as our commitment to using only natural ingredients and eco-friendly packaging materials.” Thanks to a vision and tons of hard work, we have become a leader in the natural candle market, providing our customers with a healthier and more enjoyable way to add warmth and tons of good smells to their homes.

A lot goes into this “little” business of ours. Each of us plays a crucial role, from Kenzie crafting the candles to Cory creating lids, Fisher conducting sniff tests, and Baby Wilder cheering us on. There’s just the 4 of us behind every candle we make. The saying in raising children “it takes a tribe” is just as true in business, and you all keep us motivated. Running a business from home comes with challenges, but waking up every day with our boys by our side, creating the cleanest, longest-burning candles in Southwest Michigan, fills us with gratitude. From a 1-bedroom apartment idea to a basement business, what’s next?
